Do you ever wonder why some people are so happy and others just seem to struggle? Why some people are really good at learning new things however some people just can’t get it?
There are some people that believe people are born smart or dumb, so there’s no point in trying, because they won’t get anywhere. That’s a fixed mindset. Believing that you either can or can’t do something, that you born with a talent and that’s it. However there are other people, that believe that you learn and grow, that you can do anything as long you put your Mind to it. These people will exceed in life and live a long happy life. Having a growth mindset is not about where we come from, it’s not about who we know and not even about what we know. It’s about how we think, and how we learn from failure. This means that instead of thinking, “I can’t do this, I’ll never be able learn this, it’s too hard”, you say that you can learn from your mistakes and that you’ll do better next time, instead of just giving up.
Benjamin Barber, an eminent political theorist once said, “I don’t divide the world into the week and the strong, or the successes and the failures… I divide the world into the learners and non-learners.” Have you ever heard of Nick Vujicic? He was a man born with no arms and legs. But that didn’t stop him pursuing his dreams. Now he is a painter, swimmer, skydiver and a motivational speaker. Do you want to know how he did this, he did this by having a growth mindset. Because he wanted to be something not even having no arms and legs could stop him.
Everyone should try their best and grow as a person from failure, even if it’s just a small topic test at school, to a life changing decision or event. If you need help as you feel like your struggling, talk to a parent or a friend or even call the NHS. They will give you advice and remember, there is always someone who wants to listen.
