Adedeji Oshilaja has proved Neal Ardley was right to give him the captains arm-band this season, according to club vice-captain Liam Trotter.
Trotter was speaking after Joe Pigott’s goal gave Wimbledon a 1-0 away win over Gillingham which ended three successive league defeats for the Dons.
“He’s been leading us all season,” said Trotter.
“You can see by his performances that it was a good choice by the manager in picking Deji. He was player of the season last year and he’s playing brilliantly so far this season so long may that continue.”
It was Oshilaja’s through ball that put Pigott in on goal to strike his fifth of the season and earn Ardley’s men three points which puts them 13th in League One.
Wimbledon hadn’t tasted league victory since the 1-0 opening day of the season win at Fleetwood, and after league defeats to Walsall, Sunderland and Burton many felt they weren’t getting the points their performances deserved.
“The three points are very important.
“But our performances this season, apart from the Burton game, have been very good. It’s only our second win but we’ve deserved a lot more.
“I’m confident that if continue like we have been playing, we will have a good season and do well.”
