Tooting and Mitcham United slipped to a 2-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Harlow Town in the Bostik Premier League last Saturday to remain in a perilous 23rd postition, just two points above the drop zone.
The game sprung into life in the latter stages when Harlow took the lead in the 76th minute through Alex Read.
Despite the setback, the Terrors kept battling away and were rewarded with just five minutes remaining when Chace O’Neill pounced for the leveller. However, there was a late twist.
With time almost up, substitute Charles Edwards was put clean through on goal by a neat pass from Toby Ajala.
Edwards kept his cool to slot the ball home in the third minute of injury time to snatch all three points for the home side much to the obvious delight of the majority of the crowd of 204.
It was harsh on the Terrors whose hard work and endeavour deserved something from the game.
Tooting host play-off hopefuls Metropolitan Police this Saturday at Imperial Fields. Kick-off is 3pm.
