Mitcham & Carshalton were the victors in their first home league match of the season in a very physical 21-12 win against Reigate Rugby Club.
Playing on the club’s President’s Day, the home team were the stronger side for much of the first half, leading by two converted tries by man of the match George Howe, as well as prop Luke Halford.
Mitcham began to lose their shape in the second half, with the game becoming more fragmented and erratic, which allowed Reigate to get back into the game with two very well executed tries from the backs, scoring in the corners of both occasions.
This recovery was short-lived however, with Mitcham’s Howe bursting through the line once more to offload to full back John Duggan for an easy third try.
In the final moment s of the game, the opposition could have caused an upset but they opted for a penalty kick that was missed.
The win puts Mitcham & Carshalton third in the table in Surrey 4, and will play against Old Suttonians on October 21.
