Wimbledon hockey club ladies hopes of snatching the WHL Conference East title from Slough hang by a tantalising thread after last weekend’s results.
Harriet Naismith grabbed the only goal as the Dons beat St Albans 1-0 at Kings College, extending their unbeaten run to four games.
Despite the victory, they dropped to third in the table by virtue of Cambridge City’s superior goal difference.
However, both the Dons and Cambridge cut the lead to table-toppers Slough to nine points after they lost 3-0 at Hampstead & Westminster.
Unfortunately for Ben Marsden’s team, the nine-point gap is likely to prove too large to bridge as Slough possess a far better goal difference – even if the Dons win when the sides meet this weekend.
Meanwhile, the men, who host Hampstead & Westminster on Saturday, remain fourth in the MHL Premier Division after a 1-0 defeat at Beeston.
