A charity football match featuring former AFC Wimbledon players has raised thousands for a severely brain damaged baby girl.
Evie Shears, from St Helier, was born at Kingston Hospital on January 18, but suffered severe trauma when the cord became wrapped around her neck twice, causing suffocation and brain damage.
She has since been diagnosed with retinoblastoma in both eyes and will have to undergo chemotherapy in the hope of saving some of her sight, and cerebral palsy and will require specialist care throughout her life.
About 500 people attended the family fun day on June 16, including former Wimbledon footballer Chris Perry who played 167 times for the club over eight years, raising £13,187 for Evie’s ongoing care.
Stacey Fuller, a friend of the family who helped organized the event, said: "It was lovely but was quite an emotional day.
"Evie couldn’t come down as she had had her chemotherapy, but her dad came down.
"There must have been about 500 people there and a lot who we didn’t know."
