A Wolverine impersonator was found dead in his house wrapped in cling film after a bizarre sex game went wrong.
James Logan Lockless, 50, died from autoerotic asphyxia after wrapping himself in cling film and binding himself in a red nylon sheet.
Croydon Coroners court heard how police had to kick down the door at his Devonshire Road address in Carshalton with the help of two neighbours.
Police entered the address on February 11 to find the house in complete darkness and three rolls of cling film near a weight-lifting bench.
Mr Lockless, a karate teacher based in Wimbledon, had missed a karate lesson that day and friends had become suspicious enough to alert the police.
Police used torches to search the house and found Mr Lockless's body on the floor wrapped in a red sheet.
Initially, the death was treated as suspicious, but when other officers arrived and cut the sheet off the body, they found cling film wrapped tightly around various parts of his body including his neck and ankles.
It is unclear how long Mr Lockless, who had suffered from depression, had been dead for when he was found, but there was a Sutton Guardian on the doormat dated February 8.
Auto-erotic asphyxiation is when a person cuts off the blood supply to the brain through suffocation while masturbating.
By limiting the blood supply to the brain, AEA can induce cerebral anoxia, a deficiency of oxygen in the brain.
In returning a verdict of misadventure, Coroner Dr Roy Palmer, said: "He managed to do what he did entirely on his own".
