Over 550 Brownies recently attended an Olympic style games day at Heyswood campsite. Just as Olympians come from all corners of the globe, so these Brownies came from all corners of the County of Greater London West including Sutton, Cheam, North Cheam, Carshalton, Merton Park, West Barnes, New Malden, Teddington, Wimbledon, Twickenham, Kingston, Berrylands, Wallington and Worcester Park!
They paraded behind unit banners and Olympic torches they had made for their opening Ceremony. All of the girls joined in a yoga session before dispersing to the many activities in the Culture, Sports and Values areas.
The weather was good – ideal for athletes – not too hot but dry and bright and the girls enjoyed the many activities which included synchronised swimming, trampolining, hurdles and dribbling races, javelin, stilt walking, parachute games, making clay pots, bracelets, posters and mascots, juggling, poi, plate spinning and balancing to name but a few.
The best bit was the synchronised swimming’ said Jessica, aged 8, ‘but next time can we do it in a real pool?’ The Closing Ceremony came too soon and all girls were presented with medals as they left with many memories of another amazing day spent with their peers completely safe and secure in their girl only environment.
