A resident has criticised Merton Council for failing to clean “disgusting muck” from a duck pond.
Julie Harries, 65, from Mitcham, complained to the council after seeing the pond at Mitcham Fair Green, which is home to a flock of Canada geese, ducks and their young, filled with rubbish.
She said: “What is in there is unbelievable. I can’t even describe the stuff that’s in there.
"It’s the most disgusting muck.”
The pond is supposed to be cleaned by the council each month - and was due to be done last week - but Mrs Harries has insisted that their efforts have not been good enough.
A Merton Council spokesman said it cleaned the pond every month.
He added: “If any members of the public have concerns about the upkeep of the pond and green spaces, they should email us on leisure@merton.gov.uk.”
