The Museum of Wimbledon presents “The Real Robinson Crusoe Revealed”
Wimbledon’s renowned historian Richard Milward will be remembered on Saturday with a lecture to mark the fifth anniversary of his death. In his book Wimbledon in the time of the Civil War (1976), Milward established the link between 17th century castaway Robert Knox and his lands in Wimbledon. Now lecturer and biographer Katherine Frank will be speaking about her theory that it was Knox who inspired the writer Daniel Defoe to create the iconic character, Robinson Crusoe, the world’s most famous castaway. The Village Hall, Lingfield Road, Wimbledon Village, SW19. Saturday 12 November, 2 for 2 15 pm. Followed by tea. Museum of Wimbledon, 22 Ridgway, Wimbledon SW19.
