By Kathy Hughes, Merton Park

Due to recent financial cuts within Merton Council, VoiceAbility, an organisation that recruits volunteers such as myself, is about to lose its funding.

Advocates provide a voice for the vulnerable and marginalised in our community.

Without the training ‘VoiceAbility’ provides, it would not be possible for volunteers to support susceptible adults to present their views and uphold choices.

All volunteers are police checked to ensure they are suitable to work and befriend vulnerable adults which, as individuals, we would be unable to do.

VoiceAbility not only supplies appropriate training, they offer a lifeline to the vulnerable.

If VoiceAbility is lost to Merton through the withdrawal of funding by Merton Council there will be no effective alternative for these susceptible adults to turn to.

I have seen the benefits these friendships provide and how important the training and support from VoiceAbility is to new and existing advocates.
