An investigation has been launched after a block of flats was evacuated following a serious fire which involved several parked cars.
Seven people were rescued from the first floor of a block of flats in Coombe Lane, Raynes Park, at about 6.45pm on Monday.
Twenty firefighters in total were called to the scene from four stations - Wimbledon, New Malden, Kingston and Surbiton - and part of Coombe Lane was blocked, which badly affected traffic from West Barnes Lane.
An eyewitness, who sent us these pictures taken on her mobile phone, said she saw a woman being restrained by police as she tried to enter the danger zone.
She said: "It was getting really frantic and a huge crowd of people gathered to watch what was going on.
"I got there at about 7pm but a police officer told me it had been going for maybe two hours.
"Three buses were pulled up on the grass. They must have had to close part of the road and it was causing quite a bit of chaos."
"The smell of those burnt out cars was just awful."
