A jewellery shop was filled with smoke this morning after a false alarm triggered its security systems.
Police were called to Halfhide in Wimbledon, where a system designed to thwart robbers in the event of a break-in had pumped smoke into the main shop area. But the police later said it had been set off in error and no crime had taken place.
A Merton police spokesman said officers were at the shop within seconds after being called at 11am. He added the smoke, which spilled out of the shop and into the street, was not harmful to the public's health.
