By Councillor Suzanne Grocott, Merton Council (Business spokesperson for Conservative group, Dundonald ward)
It is laudable of the council's leader to try and assist the laundrette owner in Morden whose customers are experiencing parking problems as we all know how important available parking is to the prosperity of small businesses.
What a shame then that the Labour leader’s words aren’t reflected in his actions.
Far from trying to help businesses at this difficult time, Labour seemed intent on clobbering them in their first budget this March.
They brought forward misguided plans to get rid of 20 minute free parking bays outside local shops, only partially backing down after uproar among small business owners by changing them to 10 minute free bays instead - hardly time to queue up for a pint of milk!
