A teenager suffered head injuries after being knocked down by a truck in Merton Park this morning.

The collision happened outside South Merton station in Martin Way, a busy road connecting Raynes Park and Morden, just after 8am.

The London Ambulance Service confirmed a 16-year-old boy was hit by a truck and has just been taken to St George's Hospital as a priority.

Martin Way has just been reopened by police after being closed for nearly an hour after the incident, causing traffic delays around Morden.

A spokeswoman for Merton police has said the teenager's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing, but that he had sustained cuts to his head and was likely to be released from hospital this afternoon.

She added that no arrests have been made by police and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The incident had caused concern for passers-by and motorists, as one eyewitness said: "I'm in my car and the traffic was really bad, so I got out and saw a boy lying on the ground.

"It looked really bad and there was quite a lot of blood."
