Firefighters battled a Mitcham blaze this afternoon involving an unexploded gas cylinder.
Crews from Mitcham and Sutton were called to the blaze at Peterborough Road, near the junction with Middleton Road, at about 2.01pm this afternoon.
The fire is believed to have spread to a resident's shed and to nearby wooden fencing and woodland, causing residents to report a huge amount of white smoke in the Mitcham and St Helier area.
A London Fire Brigade spokesman said a propane gas cylinder had to be cooled down by firefighters because it was at risk of exploding.
Firefighters stood down at 3.46pm but an investigation team remained to determine how the fire was started.
