The new Waitrose supermarket in Alexandra Road is set to open on July 28, a month earlier than expected.
A spokesman said: “This is indicative of the effort Waitrose and its contractors have gone to minimise disruption as much as possible for local people.
“We are redeveloping the vacant B&Q site on Alexandra Road. Revitalising a previously run-down building, creating a 150 jobs and a retail anchor in an area where previously no such service has been available.
“The construction team have completed the stripping of the old B&Q site: removed the tank at the front of the store, the old cladding and commenced work on the groundworks and altering the steelworks.”
The supermarket company was granted planning permission to build the store in July 20 10.
