CCTV images of a man thought to be involved in an incident on a train at Raynes Park have been released by police.
A 27-year-old woman from New Malden had her BlackBerry snatched from her hands on a Waterloo-to-Sunbury Hill train as it pulled in to Raynes Park.
The incident happened at around 9pm on Tuesday, March 15.
Detective Constable Oliver Gilbert, said the woman was sitting close to one of the carriage doors as she was texting a friend.
As the train arrived at Raynes Park station, the man grabbed the phone and was able to make a quick escape.
He said: “We want to hear from anyone who was on the train at the time or who has any information that could assist our investigation.”
As well as releasing the images, the British Transport Police are also warning passengers to be alert when using electrical items on public transport.
Det Con Gilbert, who said passengers use phones or other similar items should be aware of their surroundings at all times, added: “Typically thieves target passengers who are using their phones out in the open, because they are more likely to be distracted.”
Anyone with information, or who recognises the man, should contact BTP on 0800 405040 quoting reference B12/LSA of 11/05/11.
