I am writing to say how deeply disappointed I am that my MP, Stephen Hammond, voted to change the law so that courts can not consider a case for the arrest of a war crimes suspect without the say so of the Director of Public Prosecution.
These decisions should be made by Judges, not by a Government law officer who has admitted his decisions will be influenced by politicians and political factors.
Universal Jurisdiction is for crimes so serious, such as war crimes, that they can be tried anywhere regardless of where they were committed.
It is deeply disappointing that my MP and the Conserative Party have sided with the war crime suspect, rather than the many victims of these terrible crimes.
