Pupils at a Wimbledon school will be marking Lent by building bridges with a school in Africa this month.
Youngsters at Bishop Gilpin primary will raise money for Zimbabwe’s Mabale School by organising a mini-market and other fundraising events.
Bob Cargill, head teacher at Bishop Gilpin in Lake Road, said: “While Mabale will benefit greatly from the financial support we will be able to offer, I firmly believe that both of our schools will reap rewards by being able to learn about, and correspond with, each other.
“It’s important that our children learn more about and understand the difficulties that other children from around the world face in their daily lives.”
On March 23 a spokesman from a development charity will visit Bishop Gilpin to discuss life in Zimbabwe with pupils.
