Thames Water has confirmed that sewage is currently “making its way” into the Beverley Brook on Wimbledon Common.
Beverley Brook is a small river in south west London, flowing through areas like Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common before joining the River Thames.
Today (Thursday), Thames Water made Wimbledon Common aware that following a mains failure, sewage is making its way into the river.
A spokesperson for Wimbledon Common said it advises people and dogs to “keep out of the Brook”, from Wimbledon Common and downstream, until the situation is resolved.
A spokesperson for Wimbledon and Putney Commons said: “Thames Water has made us aware that following a mains failure, sewage is making its way into the Beverley Brook on Wimbledon Common.
“We advise that people and dogs should keep out of the Brook, from Wimbledon Common and downstream, until the situation is resolved.”
