Shocking footage has been shared online which appears to show the moment a man was stabbed in the back of a taxi in Rainham.
The footage shared to X (formerly Twitter) has gone viral, with the Metropolitan Police confirming it is linked to a stabbing in Spencer Road last month.
On June 24,The Recorder reported on a stabbing in the residential street that had taken place the day before.
According to the Met, a man had been approached by a group of people before being stabbed.
The victim took himself to hospital and reported the matter to police as he went.
The newly released video captures three men getting out of a taxi as a car pulls up behind the vehicle.
Several masked passengers from the car then appear to approach and a fight breaks out.
One of the taxi passengers is captured making it back into the car before he is attacked.
The incident was caught on dashcam footage lasting just more than three minutes.
The stabbing victim is seen desperately trying to close the doors to the taxi as two of the masked attackers appear to try and strike him with knives.
One of the windows to the taxi is smashed and the man appears to be stabbed in the arm.
In the footage, those in masks appear to make several more attempts to stab the taxi passenger, who also appears to have a blade, even as the taxi driver tries to drive away.
The same car is then seen following the taxi as the victim assesses his injuries and calls the police.
Blood is seen seeping through the sleeve of his t-shirt and some blood appeared to have come from his face.
The Metropolitan Police has responded to the footage in a statement.
A spokesperson said: "Police are aware of a video circulating on social media showing dashcam footage of a man in a car being attacked by a group of men armed with knives.
"The incident was reported to the Met on 23 June and remains under investigation.
"An investigation is ongoing."
