Around 27 people have been evacuated from their homes after a flat fire in Wimbledon.
The fire broke out at The Downs just after 11.20am today (August 22).
Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled the blaze.
Most of a fourth-floor flat in a four-storey residential block was damaged by the fire.
No injuries were reported following the incident.
The fire was brought under control just after 12.15pm.
Fire crews from Wimbledon, New Malden, Wandsworth, Mitcham, and surrounding fire stations attended.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by London Fire Brigade.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled a fire on The Downs in Wimbledon.
“Most of a fourth-floor flat in a four-storey residential block was damaged by fire. Twenty-seven people evacuated the building.
“There have been no reports of any injuries.
“A road closure is likely to remain in place along a section of The Downs into the early afternoon while crews remain at the scene.
“The Brigade was called at 1123 and the fire was brought under control by 1217.
“Crews from Wimbledon, New Malden, Wandsworth, Mitcham and surrounding fire stations have been in attendance.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
