A diabetic rescue cat is now looking for her forever home after 11 months of recovery at the RSPCA.
Midnight arrived at the RSPCA Wimbledon, Wandsworth and Sutton District Branch in February 2022.
She was underweight at just 2.4kg (5.3lb) when she came into RSPCA care.
Her coat was also very dry and dull and she was suffering from diarrhoea, vomiting and a very sore prolapse.
At three years old Midnight was diagnosed as diabetic and she had been unwell since early 2021.
On arrival, she stayed with one the RSPCA’s members of staff for monitoring and then moved on to a foster family to embark on the road to recovery.
Midnight’s weight and coat gradually improved and she became happier, more comfortable and energetic It has taken months to stabilise her diabetes and it seems unlikely she will ever achieve remission.
Midnight is now on diabetic food and has twice daily insulin injections.
She will need vet visits to monitor glucose and fructosamine levels at least every few months but has been signed off by the vets and is now ready to move onto a forever home after 11 months with the RSPCA.
Midnight will need access to the outdoors and whilst she’s okay to live with other cats, it’s very important she can’t get access to food other than her own.
Her new owners will ideally need to be around a lot of the time and have experience with diabetic cats.
Laura Kennedy, branch manager at RSPCA Wimbledon, Wandsworth and Sutton District Branch said: “It’s really heartwarming to see the change in her; she has gone from this desperately unwell and unhappy cat who we weren’t certain would pull through, to this loving, friendly and happy cat.
“We're pleased to say that she's been signed off by the vet, so we are now looking for a very special home for our brave girl.”
“She’s got such a lovely nature, is so gentle and chirpy; and really deserves a happy forever home.
“She’s very chatty and full of energy and fun - we particularly love her ghost impressions when she plays her favourite game of dive bombing under a blanket.”
