A man has died after being assaulted in New Malden.
The incident happened in New Malden High Street on June 1 shortly after 12.30pm.
Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found Ivan Demian, 64, suffering from a head injury.
He was then taken to hospital but died on June 6.
His next of kin has been informed.
Edward Kersys, 49, of Sussex Place in New Malden, appeared in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court yesterday (June 15) charged with the manslaughter of Ivan.
He was remanded in custody to next appear before the Old Bailey on June 17.
Kersys was initially arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with GBH.
On June 14, Kersys was further arrested and charged with Ivan’s manslaughter
A spokesperson for Met Police said: “A man will appear in court charged with manslaughter following an incident in New Malden.
“Edward Kersys, 49 (19.07.72) of Sussex Place, New Malden will appear in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 15 June charged with the manslaughter of 64-year-old Ivan Demian.
“This follows an incident in High Street, New Malden at around 12:35hrs on Wednesday, 1 June.
“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended after being called to reports of an assault and found Ivan suffering a head injury – he was taken to hospital but died on 6 June.
“His next of kin have been informed. Kersys was initially arrested at the scene, and subsequently charged with GBH.
“On Tuesday, 14 June Kersys was further arrested and charged with Ivan’s manslaughter.”
A further statement from Met Police said: "Kersys was remanded in custody to next appear at the Old Bailey on June 17."
