Residents caught above a garage fire in Mitcham on Thursday (October 28) were given urgent fire survival advice during a 999 call made before fire crews arrived.
The blaze struck a garage at Sadler Close in Mitcham, where London Fire Brigade (LFB) fire fighters were called around 2.52am.
They attended to find two garages on the ground floor of a block of flats alight.
Some 50 residents managed to escape the blaze before the arrival of the fire teams.
Several people in a three-story flat were given urgent fire survival advice during a 999 call made after the blaze broke out, LFB said.

"One garage was destroyed by fire and part of the second garage was also damaged by the blaze. Around 50 residents were out of the building before the Brigade arrived... The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers gave fire survival guidance to residents on the third floor of the building on how to stay safe before firefighters arrived," a spokesperson for LFB said.
Crews from Mitcham, Wimbledon, Tooting, Norbury and Sutton fire stations all attended to help tackle the fire, which LFB said was eventually brought under control by 3.51am.
Thankfully there were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation by both LFB and the Metropolitan Police.
