London Ambulance Service has issued an update following a fire incident in Merton this morning (Thursday).

A woman has been left fighting for her life after emergency services attended reports of a woman on fire in Leamington Avenue.

LAS has since said the incident which saw the woman in her 50s taken to hospital by air ambulance occured at a residential address.

It also said two people were treated at the scene.

LAS sent an ambulance crew, a medic in a car, a clinical team leader and an incident response officer.

London's Air Ambulance was also dispatched.

Police say the fire is not thought to be suspicious at this time.

Road closures were put in place near the scene.

The fire brigade was called at 8.57am and the fire was under control by 10.14am.

Two fire engines from Wimbledon and Mitcham fire stations attended.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.46am today (28 October) to reports of an incident at a residential address on Leamington Avenue, Morden.

"We sent an ambulance crew, a medic in a car, a clinical team leader, and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance.

"We treated two people at the scene, and one of them was taken to a hospital by London's Air Ambulance."

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at 08:51hrs to Leamington Avenue, Merton to reports of a woman on fire.

"Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service, London Air Ambulance and London Fire Brigade.

"The woman, in her 50s, has been taken to hospital is believed to be suffering life-threatening injuries.

"At this time the fire is not thought to be suspicious.

"Road closures near the scene are currently in place."

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to a fire on Leamington Avenue in Morden this morning (Thursday).

"A woman was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

"The Brigade was called at 0857 and the fire was under control by 1014.

"Two fire engines from Wimbledon and Mitcham fire stations attended."

A London Air Ambulance spokesperson said: “Our advanced trauma team was dispatched via aircraft by London Ambulance Service at 08:50 on Thursday 28th October to reports of an incident in the Merton area.

"After treatment on scene the patient was transferred by air to a specialist hospital."
