Police cordons are in place near to Wimbledon Chase station after a suspected WWII bomb was found.
Officers were called at around 2.30pm to a suspected Second World War ordnance in an old commercial property in Kingston Road in Merton.
The road has been closed and cordons are in place as a precaution between South Wimbledon and Raynes Park.
Specialist officers have been called to the scene to examine the ordnance.
The public is being advised to avoid the area.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at 14:26hrs to a suspected Second World War ordnance found in an old commercial property on Kingston Road, Merton.
"Officers are in attendance and cordons are in place as a precaution. Specialist officers have been called to the scene to examine the ordnance.
"The public are being advised to avoid the area."
