A man has been killed at Wimbledon Train Station after being struck by a train.

Ambulances have rushed to the scene after Merton Police said there was an "ongoing incident" at the railway station in south west London.

Officers are at the scene along with British Transport Police, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade, and it is confirmed that a male has sadly died.

British Transport Police: "Officers were called to the line near Wimbledon railway station at 2.35pm today (Monday 13 September) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

"Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin."

Most railway lines have now reopened although commuters should expect delays and trains will not call at Wimbledon until further notice.

The LFB said: "The Brigade was called to Wimbledon Train Station at 2.39pm and the incident was over for firefighters by 3.51pm.

"Two fire engines and a fire rescue unit from Wimbledon and Wandsworth fire stations were at the scene."

National Rail said most lines had reopended since the incident, but people were advised to travel via Raynes Park if they need the Wimbledon stop.

LAS said: "We were called at 2:36pm this afternoon (13 September) to reports of person injured by a train at Wimbledon Station.

"We sent two ambulance crews, a medic in a car and an incident response officer.

"We also our hazardous area response team. The first of our medics arrived in under four minutes.

"Sadly, despite best efforts of medics, a man died at the scene."
