A series of events will take place next week to help decide the future of Pollards Hill bus shelter.

It comes after the former public toilets, located on South Lodge Avenue, has remained out of use for decades.

As previously reported, a public consultation was undertaken earlier this year to gather ideas from the community about what the bus shelter building could become.

The idea to transform the shelter was first recognised by residents and work has since been underway to empty the unused space.

Merton Council has also been working with a collaborative design team led by architects Okra, to discuss options for the multi-purpose shelter.

Now, residents are being invited to 'Pollards Pop-Up' which will include a range of free activities including pop-up cafes and cinema screenings inside the bus shelter.

The summer programme will take place between August 16 to September 4.

A spokesperson for the project said: "The design team have been listening to ideas from the community about what the bus shelter building can be turned into, and Pollards Pop–Up will test those ideas out.

"All local residents are invited to try out free activities including pop-up cafes, local tours, health and wellbeing events, arts and crafts workshops, employment training, yoga classes and a film screening.

"Refreshments include Caribbean street food, barista-style coffee and fresh juices.

"The design team will be speaking to people about what they have and haven't enjoyed - your attendance and feedback will directly influence what the bus shelter building could be refurbished into."
