A VIDEO showing a woman confronting an alleged rapist over an 'attempted abduction' has been widely shared online today.
Police were called shortly after 7am to the North Place area this morning (November 3).
In a video shared on social media, the wanted man was filmed with a young girl inside an alleyway.
A person believed to be a family member of the woman who filmed the footage, described the incident online.
It read: "My little sister witnessed a man abducting a young girl whilst on her way to school.
"She noticed the man had his hands over her mouth whilst walking down Pitcairn Road (Mitcham) and was behaving in a strange manner.
"She called and alerted my mum and sister who called the police and left our house to attempt to find him."
In the video, the woman behind the camera can be heard confronting the man.
She shouted: "Let her go, what are you doing with her?
In which the man replied, "this is my sister, this is man's family."
The woman continued to probe the man, she said: "So what are you doing in the corner with her?"
In the video, the woman proceeds to follow the man with the camera and warned him that she was following him.
The man responded and said: "Why are you stalking man?"
It was reported that, as the woman approached him, he ran away through Singleton Close towards Colliers Wood.
In the video, she can be heard asking the little girl whether she was ok.
The girl cried, "I don't know him, I'm really scared.”
There have been no arrests at this time. Enquiries are ongoing.
A Met Police spokesman confirmed officers were looking to trace the man in the footage, in connection with allegations of rape.
Detective Inspector Laura Semple, of the South West Command Unit, said: "The victim and her family are receiving support from specially trained officers.
"We have released an image of a man we would like to speak to and urge anyone who can help us trace him to contact police immediately."
