Police have named the man who died after he was reportedly set on fire in Mitcham on Thursday (September 17).
Earlier today (September 19) a spokesperson for the Met Police named the victim as 23-year-old Loeike Guei from Thornton Heath.
The Met are treating Loeike's death as suspicious and have launched a murder probe after he was found on Commonside East in Mitcham at 06.12hrs on Thursday.
As the Wimbledon Times reported previously, officers rushed to attend the scene after they received reports of a man on fire.
Police said his family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
"A post-mortem examination began yesterday, Friday, 18 September, and gave preliminary cause of death as a head injury.
"At this time, no arrests have been made."
A crime scene remains in place on Commonside East as police continue to establish what happened.
The Met's Specialist Crime Command is investigating, led by Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley.
DCI Jolley said Saturday:
"Loeike’s family have been intensely shocked by the loss of their loved one and are at the very beginning of coming to terms with their grief.
"Foremost in our thoughts are their welfare – they are being supported by specially trained officers and we ask that their privacy is respected at this terribly sad time.
“We are in the initial stages of our investigation and are keeping an open mind with regards any motive.
"We are making good progress, following a number of leads and have spoken to a number of people already.
"What I need now is for anyone who has not spoken to us yet but have seen any suspicious activity or vehicles in the vicinity to make contact with us immediately.
"You may have information that may seem insignificant but could prove crucial to our investigation....What matters most is that you make the call. Loeike’s family are traumatised and we need the support of the public in bringing them justice."
Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting CAD 1135/17Sep. To remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers.
