People have been evacuated from their homes and left without running water after a bridge collapsed in Mitcham.
In a message posted to its website, Thames Water said its engineers confirmed that the network has been damaged due to the construction works on the bridge at the junction of Bishopsford Road and London Road near Riverside Drive.
"It has also been confirmed that there is a gas leak at the same location," The message added.
"We have been working with the emergency services all through the night in order to get this leak repaired as quickly as possible.
"When we open more bottled water stations we'll let you know.
"We're really sorry if this has disrupted your day."
A spokesman for Merton Council added that the issue is expected to be fixed sometime this afternoon (June 15).
"As a precaution, residents living closest to the scene have been evacuated from their homes and Merton Council officers are onsite," he said.
"Residents in the area are advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution and motorists are advised to avoid the area."
Earlier Thames Water opened bottled water stations at Tooting and Mitcham Sports Community Sports Club.
