January seems to hold an air of stillness within the frozen ground, not found throughout the rest of the year. There is an element of hibernation which Sunday seems to lend itself well to. I almost didn’t feel guilty spending most the weekend in bed with the paper and copious amounts of tea and toast.

Having time to reflect, I needed this month to press the reset button. Get the house and my health in order and more time with slippers and trainers whilst my heels relished in a well earned rest. However, it was fun attending an evening at The Ivy Cafe last week, meeting their new general manager Simir Kalziqi and catching up with Carol from Wimbledon Village stables and my dear friend Tilly Richardson. I had the pleasure of meeting Wimbledon Village newbies Day True, who design and supply architectural interiors plus their own Gin! Soon drowning the room with laughter, it didn’t take long to realise they share my love for all things social.

Slowly but surely I am preparing for February; the month of love. Old enough to be cynical about the commercial attributes of Valentines, but young enough to mark the occasion, I prefer to celebrate friendship, family and our community. There is no better way to do this than a glamorous party where everyone is invited. On the 7th February ‘The Wimbledon Love Ball’ will be held at Hotel Du Vin, Wimbledon, with profits going to fundraisers Celeb FC, who work tirelessly raising money for local charities.

As a hopeless romantic, I’m often drawn to traditions of ruffles and roses and so the theme is set. If you would like to bring your partner, come alone or with a friend, please do join us. I can’t promise Prince Charming, but a photo with a Simon Cowell look-a-like may get tongues wagging. Be 21 or 91; it’s a time to find a frock, put on that smile and mingle with Wimbledon people in all their finery.

For now, wishing you a wonderful week and hope to see you at The Wimbledon Ball.
