A Mitcham school and an environmental charity have teamed up to try and clean up the air we breathe.
Sustainable Merton took students and staff from Cricket Green School on a journey along Church Road to plant 100 new trees.
For some this was the first time they had planted a tree, and by the looks of things, it won't be the last.
Tom Walsh, community ambassador for Sustainable Merton said the group was "particularly concerned by the harm poor air quality is causing our children.
"This is why we are working with Merton’s schools to educate children, parents and teachers all about the harm pollution can cause and the best ways of avoiding the worst of it."
Air quality measurements recorded at Cricket Green School by Sustainable Merton last year confirmed that levels of air pollution continue to breach these standards - a problem faced by many schools in the borough.
Celia Dawson, headteacher at Cricket Green School was delighted to see the "wonder and enjoyment" in the children's eyes.
"We will all now have not only contributed to the health and well being of all at the school, but will have also left some lasting memories," she said.
"Thanks also to the Mayor of London for the donation of the saplings, a wonderful gesture.”
