A video recording has captured the moment a housing association worker has allegedly tried to punch a Wimbledon man.
The footage was recorded by a resident of Moffat Court and shows a man, believed to be a cleaner employed by Clarion Housing, saying to "go the f**k away" before allegedly threatening to punch him.
The man behind the camera told the Wimbledon Guardian that prior to what was captured on film he was cleaning his shoes by his window when the cleaner - who was wearing a Clarion Housing jumper - started "doing a wa**er" sign at him.
"Then he brings his hands up to his mouth, still making the same gesture," the resident claimed.
"He then said 'you stupid P*ki, come down here'.
"So I went down to see what his issue was.
"He went 'stupid P*ki, come follow me'."
He said the pair then crossed the road to another estate when the cleaner took out his phone and started to call someone.
"At this point I also took out my phone and pressed the record button," the resident said.
From there he queried the cleaner why he had called him a wa**er, to which he responded "because you are, you're now interrupting my phone call, now please piss off."
The man recording continues to question why he was making the hand gestures when the cleaner turns around sharply and makes as if he is going to punch him.
"Before I knew it I had my hands up," he said.
"I think he caught just a little bit of my elbow, but only softly.
"I didn’t follow him after that.
"I was basically shocked at what had just happened."
After being shown the video by the Wimbledon Guardian, a Clarion Housing Group spokeswoman confirmed the matter was being looking into.
“We are investigating this matter in line with our internal policies," she said.
"We are unable to comment on the detail of individual cases.”
A police spokesman said: "Officers from Merton are investigating following a report that a man was racially abused on Gap Road, SW19 on the afternoon of Friday, May 18.
"There have been no arrests and enquiries continue."
