Tots Landing, a children’s day care located in Broadway Court in Wimbledon, has been nominated for a Merton Community Award for the work its founder, Rob Palmer Williams, does through the business for the families in the community.
Mr Williams, of Hadleigh Close in Wimbledon, founded Tots Landing in January 2013 out of a love for hospitality and a desire to give back to the community.
Mr Williams, 41, said: “I noticed so many parents and such wonderful stories of people doing things for their community… and I have wanted to be a part of that, to have a chance to give back to my community.”
Parents with children up to age six can bring them to the day care any day between 10am and 5pm, have a drink in the lounge – equipped with free WiFi and magazines – and leave their child to socialise with other children.
According to Mr Williams, father of eight-year-old Josie and six-year-old Alex, the day care sees between 80 and 120 kids, many of whom stay for up to two-and-a-half hours.
Mr Williams said: “I’ve tried to make it a place with a community feeling, where mums and dads can socialise while their children do the same.”
Through Tots Landing, Mr Williams has raised more than £1,500 to support local organisations, such as the Royal Marsden – to which he has donated almost £800 – and Poplar Primary School – to which he regularly donates books, worth around £400 in total.
About being nominated for the award, Mr Williams said: “It just shows that if you work hard, dedicate yourself and give back to the community, people will notice. It’s an amazing feeling.”
