Nominations for the Merton Community Awards 2016 are now open.
The awards, previously known as the Merton Civic Awards, recognise the unsung heroes in the community, from volunteers to teachers to businesses, to people who have beaten adversity in their own lives.
Last year’s winners included university lecturer Paul Kohler, who made national headlines in August 2014 when he was brutally attacked by four men in his Wimbledon home.

The mayor of Merton, Councillor David Chung, said: “The Merton Community Awards are an opportunity to thank the unsung heroes of our community who go above and beyond the call of duty to make Merton the great place it is, to live, work and learn.
“Since becoming mayor last May I have already met many amazing people, who do amazing things, every day from every corner of the borough.
“It is a great honour to be the first citizen of the borough and have the privilege of meeting people who make an incredible contribution.
“If you know a good neighbour, friend, family member or colleague who are the backbone of your community, simply complete the short nomination form and ensure they receive the recognition they so truly deserve.”
