A teenager living with epilepsy and cerebral palsy has been nominated by his mother for his incredible determination in the face of daily challenges.
Donna Crookes said her son Jordan, 17, never complains, despite overcoming many difficulties over the years.
Because of his disability, his left side is weakened and he cannot do simple things like hold a knife and fork or brush his teeth without help from younger brothers.
A keen footballer, Jordan has learnt to travel independently to Leighton every Saturday to play for a Centre of Excellence sponsored by Tottenham Hotspur and is determined to learn to drive if his epilepsy allows.
He has been hospitalised by seizures in the past - sometimes up to three a year, but for the last 12 months has not had any.
He is studying Working Skills for Life at Carshalton College, a course for people with moderate learning difficulties, alongside extra maths and English classes and catering modules.
He would like to work in the catering business when he finishes college.
Ms Crookes, of Rock Close, Mitcham, said: "Throughout him growing up it has been challenge after challenge for him.
"He never moans, he gets on with things.
"He has overcome so many things and a lot of it under peer pressure."
There are just a few days left for you to nominate someone special for an award - whether they are a talented young person or dedicated volunteer.
Entries for this year’s Merton Civic Awards close on Thursday, May 21, so if you don't nominate them now it will be too late.
