As a 17-year-old who has lived my whole life in Wimbledon, I simply wanted to write in to say how I think the three UKIP councillors in Merton are bang on with their campaign and petition for a grammar school.
Merton’s schools are undeniably in a poor state and I firmly agree - as my parents did by sending me to a comprehensive school in Wandsworth.
Nobody should have to shell out for a decent education.
But a decent education is hard to come by in Merton and even over my lifetime I've been able to realise something needs to be done to help children in our community get the education they deserve.
The answer has be to be a new grammar school in Merton.
They do not discriminate on ethnicity, sex or location - but only by ability.
A grammar school in Merton would allow anyone, regardless of who they are, to get a good education.
This is something I firmly believe in having seen my friends at different schools receive remarkably different educations and, as a result, qualifications.
