Merton UKIP’s campaign for a grammar school in Merton claims that it would end selection by house price.
The evidence for that is weak.
What is clear is that it would replace it by paying for coaching which the recent Sutton Trust report highlighted, showing four times as many children coached for the 11 plus in prep schools were admitted to grammar schools than those eligible for free school meals.
Our children should not be divided into ‘academic’ and ‘non academic’ at 11.
Good comprehensives, where children learn to live and work together, do well for all children.
Instead of trying to recreate more of the failed systems of the past UKIP should campaign for the best for all children.
