The Tories recently brought in a law to make squatting a criminal offence because property was being occupied against the wishes of those whose home it was.

But now the same Tories are making a ruling that council tenants or those in housing association homes are to have legal squatters placed in any home that has a spare room, however the tenants object.

The new squatters placed in any home would have to have a key to use all the essential facilities like hot water, all paid for by the tenants and to comforts also paid for by the tenants.

If the bedroom squatters were young they could invite their friends in too and if the tenants were out visiting friends could have a party with the running of the house.

There could be damage or abuse of the personal belongings of the family’s credit cards bank books and other documents, or even money.

Remember the new squatters are all strangers: if one of them was aggressive he or she could intimidate any vulnerable people, like elderly or disabled ones.

This scheme must never become a fact; it is lunacy.
