We all have our favorite hobbies and things we enjoy to do in our spare time, activities that let us blow off some steam after that long hard week of work, school and things that generally just make our blood pressure rise!
Personally there's nothing I enjoy more than jumping in to bed with a cup of tea and watching a good film. I think most girls will agree that another good way to get rid of that tension in your shoulders is to head down to the spa for a afternoon of peace.
But for some of the boys I know at Wimbledon College, the pitch is where they get to relieve their stresses of the week, whether its rugby, football or another sport, students have an extra curricular activity that they are truly passionate about.
For my friends, football is the sport that gets their attention. The adrenaline rush of bolting down the pitch, cool air hitting your face, tackling other players, making it towards the goal and scoring the point that wins the game for your team - this is the thrill that many boys thrive on.
Dominic Felix, Chris Collins, and Lewis Angol, are a perfect example, these three boys, as well as other sixth formers from Wimbledon College are part of the local football team Dover House Lions. The team trains every Tuesday evening, and plays a match every Sunday morning.
Dominic Felix said: "Being part of the team has given me something other than school to focus on."
Each of the players express their gratitude to the sport and say how it has helped them build their stamina and discipline and improve their skills as a team worker. Some believe that being in team is like being in a family, each player is there for one another both on and off of the pitch, "I look forward to playing with these boys each week" comments Chris Collins.
With football and footballers being followed so thoroughly in the media, it's hard to go a day without seeing some aspect of the beautiful game mentioned in the press. The typical footballers life is presented as very glamorous and luxurious, so it is no wonder it's nearly every boys dream to grow up and become a famous footballer!
If they aren't reading about the latest football gossip in the papers they are at home playing the computer games, with the recent release of 'Fifa' 13 young boys have been keeping themselves homebound to play the new game. Although these boys claim this to be the best game in existence, it isn't so great for those who are friends of the gamer's, unless you are on the game yourself there is very limited chance they are likely to acknowledge you! The game may be great for them but rather unfortunate for the rest of us!
